St Joseph's Hospice (Liverpool)

At St. Joseph’s Hospice, we care for 230 patients every year with life-limiting, end-of-life conditions, from across Merseyside and West Lancashire, and support over 500 loved ones and family members. For all our patients, we aim to provide a safe, welcoming place within a modern, professional clinical environment, allowing time and space for people with complex needs to be cared for at a crucial time in their lives.

St Joseph's Hospice opened its doors in Thornton, Merseyside, in 1974 and has held a special place in the heart of our community ever since.

Our nurse-led service helps to create a home-from-home environment for our patients and provides ongoing support to their families. Our nursing team is supported by a palliative care consultant, a specialist GP, and a local network of specialist clinical support. They also work closely with our catering, laundry, and domestic staff to ensure that our patients’ needs are at the heart of everything we do. Our patients and families can also access emotional and practical support from our family support worker.

St. Joseph’s Hospice is an independent charity with rising costs and an increasingly small amount of NHS funding.  Just one-third of our income comes partly from the NHS. That means two-thirds of the income needed to run St Joseph’s Hospice is raised by our local community, through donations, buying in our charity shops, playing the hospice lottery, and leaving gifts in Wills. We rely heavily on the help and generosity of our fundraisers, donors, and volunteers.

Without YOU, we wouldn’t be here.
